So Siha, had a great idea over on Blog Azeroth, about shared topics for bloggers. The first topic is:

Q: What do you enjoy about the class you play the most?

In a word, versatility. I love being able to do multiple things with my character, and doing them well. I love getting in a 5-man, pug or otherwise, and doing something that makes other people say, “Holy crap! I didn’t know hunters could do that!” I like being able to sit back and unleash Massive Quantities of Sustained Ranged DPS (MQoSRDPS, thanks BRK). Or sitting back and letting my pet have a warlock snack, while I go make a sandwich. Or even running around the group like a madman, trapping, sleeping, mis-directing, or whatever else suits my mood at that particular time.

I generally enjoy ranged classes in the games that I play. I played a Rogue in Diablo, and LOTS of Bowazons in D2. I even made a few “Rangers” (Paladins with bows). I played a Ranger in EQ, and while I was initially disappointed with the ranged capabilities of the class, I fell in love with the versatility, and really enjoyed my role of “protecting the squishies.” Its a role that I carried with me over to WoW. Speaking of EQ, I hated not having many solo options. My play time is very limited, and spending most of my time LFG or waiting around for other people, is not a very productive way to spend it. My hunter lets me solo with ease. I still love grouping, and even raiding. But I like having the option of logging on, and questing or soloing for 15 to 45 minutes, and feeling like I’ve made some real progress.

And I love the pets! It’s great to find a rare or unique looking pet, and to take the time to go get it. It makes it all worthwhile when you get all those tells and comments of, “Wow! Where did you find that pet?” And being able to train them based on what content I’m going to, or even grabbing another pet out of the stables for different situations, is awesome. And the fact that you have to find your own pets, and tame them, and then train them and/or learn from them, is really cool, and makes the pets even more special. I got lucky and found Humar very quickly. But I had to camp Snarler, for 8 hours, on a day that I had off from work. That was back before they added the ability to train pet resistances. He actually had 100 in each resist when you tamed him. This was later removed (Thanks, Blizz!!), but it was damn cool at the time. And I remember when King B, was one of, if not the fastest, running pet in the game. Now, we can train our pets with all sorts of skills. And most pets don’t have unique abilities anymore. But it sure was fun to find them and tame them back in the day. Its STILL fun to find new and interesting pets, but its very difficult to narrow it down to 3. That’s what they make hunter alts for!
